What is "Physical Therapy"?
Honestly, I feel like I get this question much more often than I should…but that just tells me we (physical therapists) do a TERRIBLE job of helping people understand what we do and what we have to offer the world!
Many of you probably know someone who has gone to “physical therapy “ and heard that we give massages or some stretches, maybe some ultrasound or dry needling and sure, these may be things that were done at a traditional physical therapy practice, BUT this is by NO MEANS all we do nor is it even close to what we have to offer!
If I’m being honest, at this point, I’m not quite sure what “doing physical therapy” is. So, if you ask me what we do, heres what I tell people.
We help people become stronger more resilient versions of themselves. we help people reach their goals. We help people in pain, get out of pain. We help people who have had injuries or surgeries get back to doing what they love. We empower people to learn how to take care of their bodies via self management techniques and movement for long term success. We help people live the life they want at the highest level possible.
So, if you ask me what I do, I don’t “do physical therapy” I give people the tools and knowledge to change their lives, to avoid pain (back pain, knee pain, ankle pain) and continue doing what they love for as long as they wish. For some, that may be dancing, for some, that may be walking. Every patient is different, but the underlying goal remains the same!
